At the end of the Light Rail is the West Side area, home to the campus of New Jersey City University. West Side Avenue is a highly trafficked shopping district. The area borders Country Village in Greenville, known as “suburbia in the city”. The campus area has been steadily expanding since 2005 with plans for retail spaces and a promenade. In Droyer’s Point (also known as Society Hill) there are residential townhomes with pools and tennis courts in this exclusive gated community. Cutting through Society Hill is the Hackensack Riverwalk, an eight-mile Greenway with parks and walkways.
This area is car-friendly, and offers access to any PATH station along the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail. It is serviced by three New Jersey Transit buses as well as private buses.
Located just minutes from the Newark Airport, the West Bergen area also offers easy access to the turnpike. Currently, this area of the city is undergoing restoration as part of the Bayfront project. Plans are in the works to extend the light rail one more stop to the Bayfront redevelopment area. There are also plans to expand both residential and retail areas.
Hudson Mall is about a 15 minute walk from the West Side Hudson-Bergen Light Rail station, and is also accessible by bus.
